Cancer Rehabilitation & Survivorship Programme

The Cancer Rehabilitation and Survivorship Programme at Strive Clinic is a comprehensive, interdisciplinary and evidence-based programme of care for people living with or beyond cancer.

Cancer rehabilitation and survivorship are medical care that aims to reduce the troubling effects of cancer and cancer treatment so you can reach your maximum potential and live the best quality of life possible.

Over 120,000 people in Ireland are living with or beyond cancer – this represents almost 3% of the population.

Much like other forms of rehabilitation that take place after a serious illness such as stroke, cancer rehabilitation and survivorship describes a broad range of services designed to help you regain independence, build endurance, lower stress, improve mood and maintain the energy you need to participate in the everyday activities that are important to you.

WHAT IS CANCER REHABILITATION AND SURVIVORSHIP, AND HOW CAN IT HELP ME?

Cancer rehabilitation and survivorship plays an important role across the entire cancer care pathway and involves three distinct models of care: Cancer PREhabilitation, Cancer Rehabilitation and Cancer Survivorship.

Cancer PREhabilitation

Cancer PREhabilitation occurs between the time of your cancer diagnosis and the beginning of your cancer treatment. PREhabilitation improves your health and reduces the incidence and the severity of current or future health issues related to your cancer diagnosis.

Since January 2015, all Commission on Cancer accredited cancer centres in America must offer access to cancer rehabilitation either on-site or by referral.

Cancer Rehabilitation

Cancer rehabilitation specialists diagnose and manage complex problems relating to cancer and its treatment. We help you manage any physical, psychological and cognitive (thinking/ concentration) problems that may develop. Cancer rehabilitation aims to maintain or restore physical movement and function, lower symptom burden, maximise independence and improve your quality of life.

Cancer Survivorship

Cancer survivorship assists you to live well and manage your health beyond your cancer diagnosis. Our survivorship programme focuses on the vast and persistent impact that a cancer diagnosis and treatment may have on your life. Cancer survivorship addresses issues relating to bone health, heart health, physical activity, intimacy, sleep, nutrition and mental health.
